In a real street fight or self-defense situation, one of the most effective kicks you can throw is a groin kick.
A single well-placed groin kick can end any fight instantly and bring down any size opponent.
But here's the catch: if you never drill it, you will never throw it.
In combat sports, groin strikes are illegal, so most never train them, let alone drill them. That means when adrenaline hits in a high-stress situation, the technique simply won't be there.
In this post I will breaking down 4 simple but devastating combinations you can start drilling today to commit the groin kick to muscle memory. So when you need it most, it will come out automatically.
There are two extremely effective groin kicks we'll focus on, both are variations of a front up kick:
This is the simplest setup.
Throw a sharp jab to the head to distract then immediately fire the lead front up kick straight into the groin.
Add a little more power.
Throw a quick jab > cross combo and as soon as the cross lands, explode with the rear leg front up kick to the groin.
Make it fast, hit them hard.
Both of these first 2 combos show the core principle: set up your groin kick with punches.
Now start chaining strikes in case the kick misses or doesn't fully drop them.
As soon as your kicking foot lands back on the ground, explode into a hard jab > cross. This keeps the pressure on and gives you follow-up if the groin kick doesn't end things immediately.
Take the second combo and add a seamless follow-up.
After the rear leg up kick, plant that foot down (switching your stance), then immediately fire another jab > cross from the new lead side.
This keeps the attack flowing non-stop.
These 4 combinations start simple and build into longer chains that include follow-ups.
But your goal is to drill the setups so the groin kick becomes automatic.
